Batday!

8:00 AM – 6:00 PM : pass the time at work listening to The Dark Knight soundtrack and playing the trailer over and over again
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM : drive to the Chesterfield Valley, feed my face, mentally prepare
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM : retrieve my pre-purchased ticket, stand in line and wait for seating to begin
8:00 PM – 8:17 PM : complain bitterly that the movie isn’t starting on time, and that the delinquents behind me won’t quit kicking my seat
8:17 PM – 8:30 PM : watch mostly lame previews that pale, PALE in comparison to the Batgoodness that will follow
8:30 PM – 10:30ish PM : suspension of disbelief; Batcycle envy

When Idiots Breed

I frequent the blog dmiessler.com nearly every day. I enjoy Daniel’s writing and insights. His recent post, “Our Government Isn’t Failing Us. Our People Are.”, reminded me of something that I’ve been thinking about for quite a while: when idiots breed. The premise of the post is basically this: “A large portion of the American population are idiots*, and that portion is breeding disproportionately to the portion that aren’t idiots; and these people vote.” When I read the post, I remembered the very funny, but very sad movie Idiocracy, a dystopian story about a society in which the idiots eventually seize control of the United States and turn it into a wasteland of poverty and perversion because they were too stupid to do anything else. Imagine a society populated entirely with people like Brittany Spears, K-Fed, and Paris Hilton, and you’ve about got it. Here is the intro to the film, which sums up the premise nicely:

Funny? Yes. Truth value? There is. But here is what really chaps my ass. From a natural standpoint, the idiots will survive because of two reasons: 1) the pity, false guilt, and sympathy of the rich and middle class compel them to enact welfare laws to keep the idiots well-funded; and 2) the educated and intelligent people who bulk at “those damn rednecks and their breeding habits” are the same people who refuse to have children of their own. It is no great mystery. Nature always wins, bitches.

* -Yes, I do realize calling people idiots is not politically correct. But the word exists for a reason, most likely because someone smart enough to write a dictionary said, “Damn, I know people like this!” and subsequently included the word.
